Leadership Elk & Cameron Program Welcomes New Participants

The Community Education Center’s Leadership Elk & Cameron program (LEC) welcomed eleven new participants into the program this fall. The class has completed three sessions and work on their community improvement projects is underway. In September, the Fox Township Firemen’s Club hosted the group for their initial orientation session; and Creative Concrete sponsored lunch. Leadership and personality styles were discussed and the Center for Rural Pennsylvania provided information on the demographic and socioeconomic trends of Elk and Cameron Counties. The October session took participants to Cameron County for Environment, Tourism and Economic Development. Tours of Embassy Pressed Metals, Emporium Hardwoods and downtown Emporium took place. Rich Valley Mountain Winery hosted lunch, which was sponsored by Embassy Pressed Metals. November’s session focused on Communications. Participants practiced public speaking and interpersonal communication skills, met with John Salter at The River 98.9, and held an open discussion about Generation Z with local author John Schlimm. Lunch was sponsored by St. Marys Insurance.

The goals of Leadership Elk & Cameron are to increase community awareness and understanding, provide opportunities for collaborative leadership and relationship building, and to foster and promote civic readiness.
