Description:

This beginner-level training is designed for manufacturing professionals who want to leverage Microsoft Power BI to make data-driven decisions. Participants will learn how to connect, transform, and visualize manufacturing data to uncover trends, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and improve operational efficiency.

Through a combination of interactive instruction and hands-on exercises, attendees will gain practical experience building dashboards and reports tailored to manufacturing needs. By the end of the session, participants will be equipped to create insightful visualizations that support continuous improvement and strategic planning.

Key Learning Objectives:

Understand the fundamentals of Power BI and its role in manufacturing analytics
Connect to common manufacturing data sources (ERP, MES, Excel, SQL)
Clean and transform raw data using Power Query
Build interactive dashboards for KPIs such as OEE, downtime, and scrap rate
Apply basic DAX calculations for custom metrics
Share reports securely across teams and devices
Who Should Attend:

Manufacturing managers, engineers, analysts, and anyone responsible for reporting or data analysis in a manufacturing environment.

Attendee Prerequisites

Basic computer skills (comfortable navigating Windows and using common applications)
Familiarity with Microsoft Excel (basic functions like sorting, filtering, and simple formulas)
No prior experience with Power BI required
About the Presenter: Michael Griffith, Chief Operating Officer, NWIRC
Michael joined NWIRC in August 2013 following fifteen years fulfilling various manufacturing roles including product development, sales engineering, and sales and marketing management. Michael served five years in the US Marine Corps as a Korean Cryptologic Linguist and received both his bachelors in Chemical Engineering and Masters of Business Administration from The Pennsylvania State University.

During his tenure with NWIRC, Michael has directly assisted manufacturers as a Strategic Business Advisor, Manufacturing Technology Engineer, and Manager of Business Development/Operations. Michael draws upon his analytical, organizational, and project management skills and experience while working with NWIRC’s current Strategic Business Advisors and support staff to facilitate our regional manufacturers’ ability to accelerate their top-line business growth.
