The Community Education Center Announces the Opening of a New Textile and Design Studio

The Community Education Center’s DISCOVER Partnership program is excited to announce the opening of a new Textile and Design Studio. Local resident, Linda Malone Anthony, also known as the Crazy Quilt Lady, is passionate about helping people learn how to sew – from basic hemming to creating quilts. She has been collecting donations of sewing machines and the CEC offered to house them where she will host classes and tutorials. Linda and the CEC invite community members to share what types of sewing projects and skills they are looking for and in what format (scheduled classes, specific projects, open hours, etc). Please email cec@communityedcenter.com or call 814-781-3437 to share your thoughts. The new Textile and Design Studio is one part of a larger project to buildout a makerspace at the CEC which includes a media/podcasting studio, 3D printing, laser engraving, and robotics. The CEC is seeking donations of newer model sewing machines, (please include foot peddle, power cord, and manual if available) fabric, thread, needles, scissors, pin cushions, rotary cutting mats and rotary cutters, irons and ironing boards, etc. Middle school students from ECC will be utilizing the makerspace each week for the fall semester. They will be learning how to use the various equipment designing and creating projects such as pillows, coin purses, messenger bags and more.

For more information about the CEC and the DISCOVER Partnership can be found at http://www.communityedcenter.com, or by contacting the CEC at (814) 781-3437.
