Leadership Elk & Cameron Visits the State Capitol

Leadership Elk Cameron (LEC) participants visited the State Capitol in early May. The group met with Senator Dush’s Chief of Staff, Representatives Armanini and Causer, and representatives of the Pennsylvania Treasury. The Senator and Representatives engaged the group in discussions about how state government functions, how laws are introduced and amended, as well as concerns in our communities and how to address them. Topics of note included rural healthcare, housing, and Commonwealth-owned land. The participants learned about the purpose and functions of the State Treasury department and were provided a tour of the Vault of Unclaimed Property. The Vault stores unclaimed tangible property such as coins, jewelry, military medals, and antiques. Representatives also assisted participants in searching for personal unclaimed property through the Treasury website. A guided tour of the State Capitol building was also included in the day.

The goals of Leadership Elk & Cameron are to increase community awareness and understanding, provide opportunities for collaborative leadership and relationship building, and to foster and promote civic readiness. Early bird applications are currently being accepted through May 31st with a discounted program cost.
