Leadership Elk & Cameron Completes Session on Health and Human Services Day
Another fantastic day of class through Leadership Elk & Cameron, which was all about Health and Human Services! We kicked off at Elkland Search & Rescue (SAR), where Matt Young shared their mission of locating and rescuing missing persons. Their volunteer-driven SAR team also extends support to neighboring counties as requested. Nick Burdick from the St. Marys Ambulance Service also provided a tour of an ambulance and information on emergency services in Elk County.
Before lunch, our class participated in a Community Resources Simulation. We interacted with various community agencies to address potential crisis situations. Kudos to Northern Tier Community Action, CAPSEA, Keystone Rural Health Consortia, Inc, ATA, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, Dickinson Center, Elk County Housing Authority, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, LIFT, Office of Aging, and PA CareerLink® Job Seeker Services for their valuable insights and services that they provide to our community.
Our day wrapped up at the St. Marys Police Department, where we gained valuable perspectives on the drug epidemic, law enforcement’s role, and citizen involvement. A big thank you to District Attorney Grove, Alan McGill from the PA Attorney General Office, Chief Nicklas, Sgt Pistner, Deputy McManus, Officer Shaffer, AND police dog Nando.
The goals of Leadership Elk & Cameron are to increase community awareness and understanding, provide opportunities for collaborative leadership and relationship building, and to foster and promote civic readiness.
